Planting bulbs

To enjoy colorful tulips, daffodils, crocus, ornamental garlic and many more in spring requires some work in autumn. The flower bulbs have to be planted in the ground, because bright colors and rich blossoms for the garden, balcony and terrace in the coming spring are prepared in autumn.

Snowdrops, crocuses and hyacinths are the first messengers of spring, which show their colorful splendor from February on. But before that there’s a lot of work in September. Timely planting is crucial for successful growth, because bulbs planted too late are more sensitive to frost and do not flower as abundantly. The bulbs should then be planted in October at the latest.

Planting onion and garlic

Now is the perfect time to plant onions and garlic. Winter onions are planted in September/October and are already developing roots. Harvesting can therefore take place as early as the end of June.

Garlic can be planted in autumn or spring. The ideal time is autumn from September to October, because growing in autumn is ideal for good root development, so that the garlic can sprout as early as spring. They also produce larger tubers.

Have fun in the garden and a beautiful autumn 2018!
