Description
The Egyptian cucumber is grown mainly for its sponges, however the unripe fruit is edible and tastes similar to zucchini. For sponges: harvest as soon as the skin of the fruit begins to dry (and turn brown). Peel and dry immediately after harvesting (let remain until seeds fall out). Wash the sponge well under running water. Use as household sponge or as massage sponge. Can be grown in sunny, warm areas.
