Description
Effect: Buckwheat grows rapidly and quickly covers the ground thereby suppressing weed growth and creating tilth. The intensive root penetration of the top soil is crucial to the soil structure. Buckwheat freezes in winter and leaves a smattering of material on the surface which can easily be worked into the soil in spring. Buckwheat flowers about 5 weeks after germination; the bloom lasts around 6 weeks and is, therefore, considered a valuable honey plant into autumn!
